All-Star & Future Stars Information

All Star and Postseason Tournament Team Information

Every season, Campbell Little League creates All-Star teams for entry into Little League Baseball's International Tournament. It also establishes 8u and 9u “Future Stars” teams for summer local tournament play.

Team Selection & Announcements

All-Star and tournament teams are typically selected in May, and teams are announced after closing ceremonies. All-Star games typically start in mid-June and the 12u team has the chance to make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA in August. That is Little League’s premiere event and is shown on ESPN. Campbell Little League had three teams make to the final game in Williamsport in the 1970s, winning the United States Championship in both 1976 and 1979. Intermediate, Juniors and Seniors All-Star tournaments also culminate in a Little League World Series in other locations around the country.

Postseason Play is a Privilege

Playing for a Campbell Little League All-Star or Future Stars team is a great privilege and not a right. No one is entitled to a spot on these teams because of who their parents are, a previous year selection, travel team, or what round they were drafted in the Spring. League Officials’ players do not get special treatment or preference. Players earn their spots on these teams based on sportsmanship, versatility, skills, effort, and attitude displayed throughout the season. Regular Season statistics are discouraged as criteria for selection due to their unreliability and potential for manipulation. Availability also plays a significant factor, as players who cannot commit full time to the team may be passed over at selection time. All-Star & Future Star selection deliberations are considered confidential.

Limited Roster Spots

There are a limited number of spots on each team which means every season there will be deserving players who unfortunately are not selected. That is especially the case as our league grows, and the total number of players increases. We hope that players who just miss out will not feel snubbed and we encourage them to keep working hard to improve their game for the next season. Players who miss out are often inspired to improve and make it to an all-star team in future seasons. Parents should also stay positive as well, especially in the face of disappointment.

Representing Campbell Little League

Our All-Stars and Future Stars coaches and players represent Campbell Little League to other leagues and fans beyond our own community. As such, we expect those coaches, players and their families to display good sportsmanship and behavior worth emulating at postseason events. For that reason, repeated disruptive, improper and embarrassing behavior by parents may result in their player being passed over or, in extreme cases, removed from postseason teams.

Win or lose, Campbell Little League’s All-Star and Future Stars teams are a great source of pride to our League, create a lot of buzz and excitement, are tremendous fun, and help create lasting memories for the players.

8u/9u Future Stars Teams

8u and 9u tournament rules vary depending on the local league or entity offering them. 8u tournaments are typically machine or coach pitch tournaments with playing rules like our Farm Division rules. 9u tournament rules use player pitch and are more closely aligned with Minors Division rules. Tournaments typically feature pool play on Saturday and single-elimination bracket play on Sunday. 8-year-olds may play on both teams depending on skill. Selection to these teams is less rigid than for All-Star teams and rosters may vary from tournament to tournament depending on player availability and tournament roster rules. Eligibility for these tournaments varies also but typically the organizers simply verify the players’ age from copies of their birth certificates.

8u Future Stars - The top 8-year-olds in the League (or even some 7-year-olds) may be invited to play in District 44’s Future Stars Tournament, which is a 2-weekend coach pitch tournament in June after our regular season is over. The purpose of that tournament is to introduce and prepare players and families for TOC and All-Star tournaments they may be involved in as the players progress through Little League. This tournament does not have all of the pomp and circumstance of All-Star tournaments, and the rules may be tweaked from year to year. 10u All-Stars are not eligible for the Future Stars tournament but may be eligible for the other local 8u tournaments this team will enter throughout the summer. Future Stars players are selected from the Farm and Minors Divisions.

9u Future Stars - The top 9-year-olds in the League (and maybe some 8-year-olds) may be invited to play in local tournaments throughout the summer. These players are selected from the Minors Division.

Little League All-Star Teams

Campbell Little League charters All-Star teams to play in divisions each season. Sometimes, if there are not enough players to form a team, the League may forego chartering a particular team, but every effort is made to create a competitive team in each division. These tournaments are governed by Little League International.

For the 10u, 11u, and 12u All-Star teams, players are selected via a process that includes player votes and votes by the managers and coaches in the relevant division. For more information about the procedures used, please refer to our Bylaws approved every year prior to the start of the Spring Season.

For the teenage division teams, (Intermediate, Juniors, and Seniors) teams are typically selected by the All-Star manager and coaches. Intermediate and Junior teams are limited to 12-14 spots. Senior teams may carry 16 players, and this team is created principally to compete in TOCs and All-Star tournament play.

Players on All-Star teams must meet eligibility requirements set forth by Little League International prior to the start of each tournament. That means proving age and residence, school enrollment, League Choice, or obtaining a waiver. Once a player establishes tournament eligibility, they do not need to do so again unless the basis for the eligibility changes (change residence or school).

Locations of Section and Division (Northern California) portions of the tournaments vary each year as the seven Northern California sections alternate hosting duties each season.

Information about Tournament play, history, and results at the District 44 level can be found at District 44’s website.
