Our divisions of play are divided into different age groups, and we follow Little League Baseball International guidelines. Even though exceptions are bound to occur, we try our very best to balance the specific needs of the player with developmental goals of all parties as well as player safety. Not every player advances at the same rate, though we make every effort to assign each player to their division of choice. In every case, we stand by the principle that if a player wants to play, we will find a spot on a roster for that player.
At Campbell Little League, we strive to give all players the best youth baseball experience possible. We offer two seasons of play. Our primary season is our Spring Season, which provides players with the full Little League experience. From September through November we offer Fall Ball, which is focused on development of skills, is non-competitive, and is not subject to Little League’s boundary or age restrictions.
Please refer to the Little League Age Chart to determine your child's “league age.” Specific evaluation, draft, and division playing rules may be found in our Bylaws, which are updated prior to the start of each season.
Our divisions of play are as follows:
SPRING SEASON
T-BALL DIVISION
League Ages: 4 - 6
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while being introduced to the most basic elements of baseball: throwing, fielding, hitting, & baserunning.
Summary: In this division, players learn to play non-competitive baseball while still developing basic skills under modified playing rules. Players hit a soft baseball off a tee for much of the season before they are introduced to hitting a ball pitched by a coach.
Experience: There is no minimum experience required to play in this introductory and developmental division. Players in this division are typically in their first year in organized baseball.
Team Selection:
- Players are placed on a team by the league.
- Teammate requests are accepted. Not every request can be accommodated.
- Smaller roster sizes (6-10) allow for more playing time for each player.
What to expect:
- 1-2 practice/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 1 game/week (12 games total)
- 3 inning games
- Games last ~45 minutes to 1 hour
- All players bat every inning and there are no outs recorded
- No Postseason/playoffs
- Each player receives an award at closing ceremonies
Field Size: Bases are 40’ apart. Coach pitch from ~10’ later in the season.
Season Highlight: Each T-Ball team will play at least one game on the Majors Field, with player introductions and walk-up music.
ROOKIE DIVISION
League Ages: 5 – 8
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing basic baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship.
Summary: In this division, players learn to play non-competitive baseball while still developing basic skills under modified playing rules. Rookie players will hit against coach pitch from a close distance, while gradually eliminating use of a tee. There are no standings kept and players bat every inning. Towards the end of the regular season, outs are recorded to prepare players for the Farm Division.
Experience: There is no minimum experience required to play in this introductory and developmental division. 5-year-olds should have one year of Tee Ball before playing in this division. Most players spend 2 years in this division before moving up to the Farm Division.
Team Selection:
- Players are placed on a team by the league.
- Teammate requests are accepted. Not every request can be accommodated.
What to expect during the Season:
- 1-2 practices/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 1-2 games/week (~14 games total)
- 4 inning games
- Coach pitch
- Outs recorded towards end of the season
- No Postseason/playoffs
- Each player receives an award at closing ceremonies
Field Size: Bases are 50’ apart. Coach pitch from ~15-20’.
Farm Preview: Each team will normally play at least one game on the larger Farm Field during the season.
FARM DIVISION
League Ages: 6 - 10
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing the baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship needed to advance to the Minors Division.
Summary: In this division, players learn to play competitive baseball while still developing fundamental skills under modified playing rules. Kid pitch is introduced at 40’ and coach pitch is still used from the same distance. Players make outs and scores are kept. We maintain standings and have a single-elimination playoff after the regular season is over. We award a regular season and playoff champion, though all Farm players receive an award at Closing Ceremonies.
Experience: There is no minimum experience required to play in this division, however, most players should have some experience in the Rookie Division prior to playing Farm. The most common scenario is that players start this Division when they are League Age 7 and play for two seasons.
- Each year there may be a handful of 6-year-olds ready to play. These players must be approved for play by our Safety Officer.
- Some 7-year-olds may not be ready for the Farm Division and are assigned to a Rookie Division team.
- Some 9- or 10-year-old players may not be selected for the Minors Division and will be assigned to Farm for an additional year of seasoning, though a 10-year old in the Farm Division is rare and must not pose a safety risk.
Evaluations & Draft: The Farm Division is a draft division, meaning friend requests are not accepted. The approved managers draft their teams. Children of managers and 1 assistant coach are assigned to their teams automatically via the process set forth in our Bylaws. The 2nd & 3rd official assistant coaches are “drafted” by the manager.
Because players are drafted, all players League Age 7 and older must attend at least one evaluation. During Evaluations players are evaluated for their ability to catch, field, throw, hit and run. League age 6 players who want to play in this Division must also attend an evaluation day.
After the Draft, which is typically in late January/early February, managers will notify the parents of team selection and when practices begin.
What to expect during the Season:
- 1-3 practices/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 2 games/week (1 weekday and 1 Saturday; 16-game regular season)
- Gradually, player-pitch occurs up to 3 innings/game
- 10 Players on defense
- Mandatory Play: 4 innings on defense, including 1 in the infield
- Playoff: Single Elimination Bracket Tournament after regular season. All teams make the playoffs.
- Each player receives an award at closing ceremonies
Postseason Tournament(s): The top 8-year-olds in the League (and maybe some 7-year-olds) may be invited to play in District 44’s Future Stars Tournament, which is a 2-weekend coach pitch tournament in June after our regular season is over. The purpose of that Tournament is to prepare players and families for larger tournaments they may be involved in as their players progress through Little League. Other local tournaments may also be available to the Future Stars throughout the summer. Selection for the Future Stars team is determined by the process set forth in our Bylaws.
Note: Moving up to the Minors Division
After two seasons in the Farm Division, most players are generally ready to move up to the Minors Division (8-11), which is also a draft division.
The age and size and ability of a player factor into whether a player is ready to move up to the Minors Division. Sometimes, a player needs an additional year in Farm before being ready for Minors. Also, the total number of players registered, number of teams and roster sizes in the Minors and Majors divisions may limit the total number of spots available in those divisions, meaning some players are assigned to Farm for an additional year of development.
MINORS DIVISION
League Ages: 8 - 11
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing the baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship needed for moving up to the Majors Division.
Summary: In this division, players play competitive baseball while still developing fundamental and advanced skills under modified playing rules. Players pitch the entire game from 46’ meaning pitching and catching and baserunning take on added importance. Defenses are limited to 3 outfielders. We maintain standings and have a double-elimination playoff after our regular season is over. We award a regular season and playoff champion. Our Playoff Champion is automatically entered into District 44’s single elimination Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June. Players are eligible for All-Stars.
Experience: The vast majority of players in this division are league ages 9 and 10. There are occasionally some advanced 8-year-olds who play Minors. Also, players 10 or 11 sometimes play in this division without any prior experience, but most players have baseball experience before playing in this division. Some 11-year-olds players need an additional year of seasoning in Minors before moving up to Majors. Players league age 12 can play in this division with parental consent and District 44 approval, but that is rare and typically occurs with inexperienced players who may present safety concerns in Majors.
Evaluations & Draft: The Minors Division is a draft division, meaning friend requests are not accepted. The approved managers draft their teams. Children of managers and 1 assistant coach are assigned to their teams automatically via the process set forth in our Bylaws. The second official assistant coach is “drafted” by the manager.
Because players are drafted, all players League Age 9 and older must attend at least one evaluation. During Evaluations players are evaluated for their ability to catch, field, throw, hit and run. League age 8 players who want to play Minors must inform the Player Agent prior to evaluations of their desire and will typically evaluate with the 9-year-olds.
After the Draft, which typically occurs in late January/early February, managers will notify the parents of team selection and practice schedule.
What to expect during the Season:
- 12-player roster
- 2-4 practices/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 2-3 games/week (1-2 weekday and 1 Saturday; 18-21 regular season games)
- Interlock Games: Minors teams may be scheduled to play some games against teams from other leagues, including games away from the Campbell Little League facility
- Playoffs: All Minors Division teams participate in our playoff tournament, which is a double-elimination bracket-style tournament.
- Regular season and Playoff champions receive an award at closing ceremonies, as does the playoff runner-up.
Postseason Tournament(s):
TOC – Our Minors playoff champion is automatically entered into District 44’s single elimination Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June. The league that wins the Tournament receives a banner and the players receive an award. Players from the runner-up team also receive an award.
10u All-Stars – The top 8-, 9-, and 10-year-old players from the Minors and Majors divisions may be selected to participate in the Little League All-Star tournament.
11u All-Stars – 11-year-old players in Minors are eligible to be selected to participate in the Little League All-Star tournament.
Note: Moving up to the Majors Division
After two seasons in the Minors Division, most players are generally ready to move up to the Majors Division (10-12), which is also a draft division.
The age and size and ability of a player may also factor in whether a player is ready to advance to the Majors Division. Sometimes, players need an additional year in Minors before being ready for Majors. Also, the total number of players registered, number of teams, and roster sizes in the Majors may limit the total number of spots available, meaning some players may be assigned to Minors for an additional year of development.
Majors Division
League Ages: 10 - 12
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing the baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship needed for playing in the teenage divisions.
Summary: In this division, players continue to play competitive baseball while developing fundamental and advanced skills. We maintain standings and have a playoff tournament after our regular season is over. We award a regular season and playoff champion. The Playoff Champion is automatically entered into District 44’s single elimination Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June. Players are eligible for All-Stars.
Experience: Most players in this division are league ages 11 and 12. There may be one or more advanced 10-year-olds who play Majors. Players that are league ages 11 or 12 occasionally play in this division without experience, but most players have several years of experience before playing in this division. Some 11s need an additional year of seasoning in Minors before moving up to Majors.
Evaluations & Draft: The Majors Division is a draft division, meaning friends requests are not accepted. The approved managers draft their teams. Children of managers are assigned to their teams automatically via the process set forth in our Bylaws.
Because players are drafted, all players League Age 11 and older must attend at least one evaluation. During Evaluations players are evaluated for their ability to catch, field, throw, hit and run. League age 10 players who want to play Majors must inform the Player Agent prior to evaluations of their desire and will typically evaluate with the 11-year-olds.
After the Draft, which typically occurs in late January/early February, managers will notify the parents of team selection and practice schedule.
What to expect during the Season:
- 11-12-player roster
- 2-4 practices/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 2-3 games/week (1-2 weekday and 1 Saturday; 18-21-game regular season)
- Interlock Games: Majors teams may be scheduled to play some games against teams from other leagues, including games away from the Campbell Little League facility.
- Playoffs: All Majors Division teams participate in our playoff tournament that consists of Best 2 out of 3 series.
- Regular season and Playoff champions receive an award at closing ceremonies, as does the Playoff runner-up.
Postseason Tournament(s):
TOC – Our Majors playoff champion is entered into District 44’s single elimination Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June. The league that wins the Tournament receives a banner and the players receive an award. Players from the runner-up team also receive an award.
10u All-Stars: 10-year-old players from the Majors division may be selected to participate in the Little League All-Star tournament.
11u All-Stars: 10-year-old players from the Majors division as well as 11-year-old players from Majors or Minors may be selected to participate in the Little League All-Star tournament.
12u All-Stars: 10-, 11-, and 12-year-old players from the Majors division may be selected to participate in the Little League All-Star tournament.
TEENAGE DIVISIONS
Beginning in 2024, Campbell Little League chartered teams in Little League’s Teenage divisions. Games and practices for these divisions require larger fields than available at Campbell Little League’s facility and are played elsewhere. Many players in these divisions volunteer as umpires in our lower divisions or work in our Snack Shack during the season.
INTERMEDIATE DIVISION (13)
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing advanced baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship on a larger field.
Summary: In this division, players play competitive baseball on fields larger than the Majors field using more advanced rules. Leagues that field Intermediate teams typically have less than two teams and games are played all over District 44 or in neighboring districts. All teams are entered into the District 44’s Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June.
League Age: 13. Most players in this division are league age 13. Other leagues may field teams with 11- or 12-year-olds on the roster. Majors players who are 11 or 12 are eligible to be pool players on this team.
Experience: While some players may have no experience before playing in this division, previous experience is highly recommended. Many of the players at this level also play baseball elsewhere so the rosters tend to be larger due to account for availability.
Evaluations & Draft: If there are enough players registered to form two teams, then an evaluation day and draft will be required. Otherwise, players will be assigned to the only team.
Combined Teams: If there are not enough registered players to form a single team, then the League will combine with a nearby league (or leagues) to form a “Combined Team”, which is more common in the teenage divisions. If the bulk of the players are from Campbell, then Campbell will be the Host league. Otherwise, another league will be the Host league. Players on the combined teams register with their home league but play for the Host league and are subject to the Host’s volunteer requirements with some exceptions.
Location: Campbell usually plays its home games at Miller Middle School in Cupertino.
What to expect during the Season:
- 1-4 practices/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 2-4 games/week (18-21-game regular season)
- Each team makes its own schedule with other leagues
- Games last 7 innings
- Field Size: 50’ pitching distance, 70’ bases
Postseason Tournament(s):
TOC – All Intermediate Division teams are entered into District 44’s elimination Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June. The league that wins the Tournament receives a banner and the players receive an award. Players from the runner-up team also receive an award.
Intermediate All-Stars – 12-14 players will be selected to the Intermediate All-Star team. At least 8 regular season games are required for eligibility.
JUNIORS DIVISION
League Age: 14. Other leagues may field teams with 13-year-olds on the roster.
- Safety Note: Because players moving from a Majors size field (46/60) to a Juniors size field (60/90) is a huge leap in throwing distances, the Intermediate Division provides a smaller increase for still developing arms. Some 13-year-old players may be physically ready to advance from Majors to Juniors, but Campbell takes a more cautious approach and keeps 13-year-olds in Intermediate.
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing advanced baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship on a larger field.
Summary: In this division, players play competitive baseball on a high school size field using more advanced rules. Leagues that field Juniors teams typically have less than two teams and games are played all over District 44 or in neighboring districts. All teams are entered into District 44’s Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June.
Experience: Players should have experience before playing in this division, players without experience may create a safety risk. Many of the players at this level also play baseball elsewhere so the rosters tend to be larger due to availability.
Evaluations & Draft: If there are enough players registered to form two teams, then an evaluation day and draft will be required. Otherwise, players will be assigned to the only team.
Combined Teams: If there are not enough registered players to form a single team, then the League will combine with a nearby league to form a “Combined Team”, which is more common in the teenage divisions. If the bulk of the players are from Campbell, then Campbell will be the Host league. Otherwise, another league will be the Host league. Players on the combined teams register with their home league but play for the Host league and are subject to the Host’s volunteer requirements.
Location: Campbell plays its home games at Miller Middle School in Cupertino.
What to expect during the Season:
- 1-4 practices/week (at manager’s discretion)
- 2-4 games/week (18-21-game regular season)
- Games last 7 innings
- Field Size: 60’ pitching distance, 90’ bases
- District 44 creates a schedule for District teams. The team manager schedules additional games at its discretion.
Postseason Tournament(s):
TOC – All Juniors Division teams are entered into District 44’s elimination Tournament of Champions (TOC) in June (format varies). The league that wins the Tournament receives a banner and the players receive an award. Players from the runner-up team also receive an award.
Juniors All-Stars – 12-14 players will be selected to the All-Star team. At least 8 regular season games are required for All-Star eligibility.
Seniors Division
League Age: 15-16. Most players in this division are league ages 15 and 16. Other leagues may field teams with 13- and 14-year-olds on the roster.
Objective: The primary objective of this division is that the players have fun while developing advanced baseball skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship on a larger field.
Summary: In this division, players play competitive higher-level baseball on high school size fields. Players on this team typically play in high school and thus there is no regular season. There is also no minimum play.
Experience: Players should have multiple years of experience before playing in this division.
Team Selection: Rosters may be as large as 16 players. An evaluation day may be required. Because this team is chartered to play in the All-Star tournament, availability is a factor.
Seniors All-Stars – Up to 16 players will be selected to the All-Star team. There is no regular season game requirement to make the team as players in this division play baseball in high school.
Postseason Tournament(s):
Due to the low number of Seniors teams in the District, District 44 often holds a combined TOC/All-Star tournament.
Challenger Division
- Little League's baseball adaptive program for players with physical or intellectual challenges.
- Players 4 - 18 years old (or up to 22 if still enrolled in school).
- Please email District 44 Coordinator for more information at [email protected].
FALL SEASON
We offer Fall Ball in the following divisions.
Objective: Campbell Little League offers Fall Ball primarily for development. It is the League’s intention to provide players with an opportunity to
- Have fun with friends!
- Play baseball for the first time
- Transition to a higher division before Spring
- Improve baseball skills in a non-competitive environment
Games and Practice Schedule:
- Practices are held typically by division. That means more players and more coaches allow more opportunities for different drills. Practices will be run more clinic-style and move faster than a single team practice.
- Games for all divisions are held on Sundays. Official scores and standings are not kept.
- Depending on format, teams may play against other Fall Ball teams in the area. Local travel may be required.
- Game Format. Depending on registration numbers, the game format may be a standard 2 team format or a 3-team format with rosters of 5-7 players each. Modified playing rules will be used depending on the division.
